My 4 yr old son was diagnosed with Epilepsy, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. I believe there is something more than that just going on. I have searched the net the best I can to find something or clues as to what is going on with him. Here are all of his symptoms (yes I have him seeing doctors, all 3 doctors won't get together and discuss what all his symptoms are). He is extremely violent. He drools all the time. His speach is not where it should be for his age. He has poor motor skills. He has outburst that cause me to have to restrain him so that he does hurt himself, others, or break things. His sleep is not consistant. There are times were he won't sleep at all. He is always hungry. Has high interest in sex or the female antomy. I know this is probably the last site I should ask for advice. I am however on state funded medical insurence and it is hard to get a proper diagnosis. I am at the end of my rope. Living with a child with so many problems has made my home hard.

I was very sick during my pregnancy, but the doctor said that had nothing to do with his disabilities. He has never had any brain damage or been exposed to any chemicals. I have been to the school he is going to be attending in Aug. and told them of his condition. They didn't tell me about any assessments. I will go back and ask for one to be done. And yes this is hard. I would say mostly on him because he doesn't understand why he is the way he is. Its hard on me because I hate watching him struggle. Its hard on us a family because he does things that hurt the other family memebers. And when we try to go out some where people look at him or I with that "you kid needs a good spanking" look. He really is a great kid. I love him with all my heart. It is just hard on all of us. And when I said that I think there are other issues, what I meant was I believe he has been misdiagnosed. Its not what they are saying is wrong with him. Has anyone else experianced anything like I am?

That must be so hard! Has anyone diagnosed Asperger syndrome or autism? Check the web for information on these disorders. you just might find some answers. Being on state medical will make things tougher. You have to fight to get anything done. Your state mental health board may give you some more answers if this is the diagnosis. Best of luck.

You think it is more than just epilepsy, bipolar and ADHD? That is a lot for anyone, especially a 4 year old, to deal with.

Could he have brain damage from a difficult birth or head injury? Did you have a healthy pregnancy? Has he ever been exposed to chemicals or toxic substances?

Your son needs an educational asessment to determine the extent of his delays (speech, language, management of saliva, occupational and physical therapy). You can go to your neighborhood school and tell the principal that you want your boy tested; US schools are mandated by law (PL94-142) to provide services, even for a 4 year-old. Or, you can take him to a teaching hospital; they all take Medicaid/Medi-Cal.
