A complicated question cannot usually ber answered by a simple answer. I would suggest that all answers are actually only theories and the best answer is that we do not know why we are here....I know...that's why you are asking so here are two theories.
In the physical sense we are here because we can be. What I mean is that we exist because it is a physical and spiritual possibility. How we came to exist is largely summed up in two theories, the first being that we were designed by an intelligent outside source and the second is that we are the result of the culmination of an immense number of random events that had previously failed to produce this result but over the span of infinity it had to eventually produce it.
I would suggest a course or good book on philosophy to review a number of ancient and modern ideas on existence.

Spiritual growth, preparing our soul for the next world:

"The purpose of the creation of man is the attainment of the supreme virtues of humanity through descent of the heavenly bestowals. The purpose of man's creation is, therefore, unity and harmony, not discord and separateness. If the atoms which compose the kingdom of the minerals were without affinity for each other, the earth would never have been formed, the universe could not have been created. Because they have affinity for each other, the power of life is able to manifest itself, and the organisms of the phenomenal world become possible. When this attraction or atomic affinity is destroyed, the power of life ceases to manifest; death and nonexistence result.

It is so, likewise, in the spiritual world. That world is the Kingdom of complete attraction and affinity. It is the Kingdom of the One Divine Spirit, the Kingdom of God. Therefore, the affinity and love manifest in this meeting, the divine susceptibilities witnessed here are not of this world but of the world of the Kingdom. When the souls become separated and selfish, the divine bounties do not descend, and the lights of the Supreme Concourse are no longer reflected even though the bodies meet together. A mirror with its back turned to the sun has no power to reflect the sun's effulgence. Praise be to God! The purpose of this assembly is love and unity."

Were here to do something for a purpose. People think we were just here to live life and die. Inorder you have to open yourself to God, not like meditation but in a relationship with Him.

To be tested as a determination (before our final judgement) of what is to be done with our souls. Whether God will take back the energy he blessed us with, or let us keep it.

For God's pleasure and purpose. This is only a temporary assignment. We are created for eternity.
