Anyway......you would be working your biceps, triceps, delts (shoulders), lats (back) and some chest. Punching the air with these needs to be done with very light weights as for these muscles this is not a natural range of motion to perform with added resistance.
If the weights are too heavy and you're doing it too fast it would be too easy to tear your rotary cuff in your shoulder and you don't want to do that! Very painful and the injury takes forever to heal because you use this area all the time....
You're better off to punch without weights like tae bo or kickboxing. The punches are designed to tone your arms and also get your heart rate up.

That actually is really bad for your shoulders. Punch without weights.
