As far as I know, my Maine Coon kitten's nose us usually dry.

Some ways to tell if your kitten is sick is:
1. Runny nose or dried matter around his nostrals
2. His eyes are weeping, or his second lid is not opening all the way
3. He is sneezing/coughing
4. He just wants to sleep, lethargic, not energetic
5. He is not eating or drinking
6. He vomits and/or has diarrhea

Upper respritory infections can quickly kill a kitten. If he is having any of these symptoms take him as soon as possible to his vet.

Okay?

A cat’s nose is normally a bit cool, and a little moist. If your cat is acting perfectly fine, a dry nose is nothing to worry about. It could be something as simple as dry climate conditions. If your cat is sick, however, and it’s nose is dry, it could be that the illness that your cat is suffering from has led to dehydration, and a dehydrated cat would certainly be expected to have a dry nose and dry, tacky gums. It’s also possible for a cat that is very sick to have a warm, wet nose; fever could make the nose feel warm, and a respiratory infection, with a runny nose, would certainly keep the nose wet. As you can see, nose temperature and moisture level is not a very precise indicator of a cat’s health.

I have 2 cats. One's nose is usually dry and the others is normally moister. Sometimes, the nose moisture and temp depends on how they were sleeping: face tucked into their body and covered with a paw usually gives them the dry warm noise. So it depends also on what's normal for your cat. Take it to a vet if you are worried.

A cold, wet nose is one sign of good health in dogs and cats.

However, even a healthy pet can have a warm, dry nose on occasion.

On the other hand, really sick pets can also have cold, wet noses. What does all this mean? Simply that any one indicator of health is not 100 percent accurate all the time. Sick pets with cold noses should be seen by your veterinarian.

And by the same token, pets with warm, dry noses that are showing other symptoms such as lethargy or not eating should also be seen by a doctor.

Make sure it's wet at some point later -- dry noses don't always mean sickness and you should probably see some other signs if he is sick. Just keep an eye on him:) Good job, though, on watching out for stuff, it will come in handy to know your kitty when he gets older and does get some kind of illness.

It most probably is dry because he isn't 100 percent. Cats (and dogs) are supposed to have wet noses. It could be because he is dehydrated. Grip the skin on top of his neck and see how quickly it settles back into place. If it takes a while he is dehydrated. Keep an eye on him and if he doesn't do much and isn't his usual self, I would suggest taking him to a vet if he doesn't perk up.

according to my vet, a dry nose is normal for a cat. no need for concern unless the cat acts like he feels bad; no appetite, no playing, etc.
