My sister has 2 cats and one of them is either uriniating or vomitting a liquid that has blood like color? Someone said it may be a urinary tract infection. Does anyone have any information? She would take the cat to the vet, but she doesn't really have the cash unless it is absolutely necessary. can anyone help?

If it is urine, it is probably due to a UTI, very common in cats, especially males.

Take the cat to the vet. If it is due to a urinary tract problem, they will probably prescribe antibiotics and suggest a special food that helps to prevent the formation of crystals in the cat's bladder. The food can be quite expensive, and the cat will need the special diet forever, because some cats are just prone to this problem. Very rarely does it happen once and not again, unless you feed the high quality food.

If the blood is in the vomit, it's probably a way more serious problem.

It could be your kitty has a urinary tract infection, or has FLUTD, which is a lifelong condition that is treated with a special diet to prevent crystals from forming in the urinary tract. I would take him to the vet to get a urine test and a blood test -- they have programs that can help pay for this. Blood in urine is never normal, so it sounds very necessary -- if you need, check prices in advance, and see if vets allow payment programs. Sometimes places like Petsmart sell you a program that allows you check ups and you make monthly payments insteasd of all at once, though I would prefer a different vet. But you need a urine test at least, asap, and probably antibiotics which could cost about $15-30

**edit** It always shocks me when I see people who only treat their very sick and uncomfortable pets if it is *absolutely necessary*. We all treat ourselves when we're sick, and have a lot of unnecessary toys. Anyway, tell her if she adopted a cat she has to take on the responsibility or find the kitty a new home.

It is absolutely necessary- 100% necessary- not one bit optional. The cat needs to see a vet.

If it were a UTI this bloody liquid wouldn't be vomited up, it would be coming from her urinary tract.

She may have peritonitis or poisoning or a number of things, all of which need immediate care from a vet.

It could be a number of things. But, whatever it is if it involves the animal bleeding then you should take it to the vet straight away. Your sister needs to find the money before a maybe minor illness that can be easily treated, becomes very serious and harmful for the cat.

Well she can either take the cat to the vet, or watch it die in misery. If it were urninary tract infection, it wouldnt be vomiting blood.

My cat did that once and it was a blood parasite. It took the vet almost a month to figure it out. The cat almost died.

The cats needs to go to the vet. And if it's important enough to her she can find the cash.

No. But take it to the vet that sounds really serious and possibly deadly. Even if it isn't after taking it to the vet you'll know.

It is probably blood, take it to the animal shelter and say you found it, they will fix it up and then you can go adopt it.
