If you are otherwise Itemizing your deductions rather than taking the Standard deduction for your filing status, then yes you can deduct medical expenses that you paid in 2006.

Keep in mind that you have to reduce your total medical expenses by 7.5% of your adjusted gross income.

If you are not itemizing your deductions then you can not claim the medical expenses

You can deduct your prescription medications that you paid for and any expenses that were not covered by your health insurance. Anything that you paid out of pocket for. You can also deduct your travel to the doctors' office or hospital.

If you itemize, you can deduct unreimbursed medical expenses but only the amounts that exceed 7.5% of your AGI (adjusted gross income).
