I have two persian cats that are brother and sister. I have had them for about a year and a half and they get along great. Last night I shaved them both down, leaving their hair around their face and legs. I had done this before just to one of them. But, after doing this last night, now all they do is growl at each other and have even started fighting. They are both declawed, so they can't scratch each other, but I'm afraid they're going to bite each other. Does anyone have any suggestions or reasons why they are doing this? It's almost as if they don't recognize each other.

If they smell a little different from lack of furr, it could be stressing them out. Or they may just be crabby from the shaving. I have had cats freak out when another comes home from the hospital, cause they probably smell a little different. IF you are afraid, try separating them in rooms ofr a little bit. Hopefuly they will just settle down after a while if they're left alone, separate or not ( closing them in a room may also upset them, so do what you feel is best) My sibling cats have never actually harmed each other even when they are irritated with each other, they just yell or swat for the other to stay away.

It is quite possible that they don't recognise each other. When my cat was in a fight and had his leg fur shaved and had a collar around him, his family growled at him all the time. Just give them time to get used to each other. Maybe get two cat cages and put them in the cages facing each other and let them see each other for a few minutes so get used to the other. You could also stop them from fighting by making a loud noise whenever they do, or spray them with water.
It'll take time for them to get used to each other!
Not sure if this will help.

They really may not recognize each other not so much because they look different but because they smell different from the shampoo. They may be just totally upset and aggrivated at the shaving and bathing and each finds the other handy to blame and take it out on. Separate them for a while. Then let them back together gradually with supervision.

try feliway it is a device with a refill that spreads a scent that calms cats. facilities such as rescues use this stuff to keep hissing fighting at a minimum. however, your cats might adjust when they get over the shock of their new hairdos.
