Jelly is made with the juice of the fruit only. Jam is made from the fruit.

Jam is made with whole fruit puree, while jelly is made with just the juice. That's why jam is usually thicker then jelly. You're not an idiot! ; )

you're not a idiot at all....if my mom didn't make her own jams and jellies i wouldn't know either...so jam is made with the pulp or the meat of the fruit smashed up and jellies are made with just the juice.

I ALWAYS buy jam instead of jelly. It's much easier to spread and makes a great peanut butter and jelly (or jam!) sandwich. It doesn't tear up your bread or drip like jelly does.
