86 means you're out of something in restaurant terms. Like we are 86 tomatos. 86ed can also mean that you're fired, or missing in action. Like that bad employee got 86ed.

Generally used in restaurant or foodservice environments when a specific item is no longer available. For example, "86 baked haddock", or "the mussels have been 86'ed", or in a bar when you may have drunk too much and can never come back.

No, it's also a term in restaurants as well. If I say "86 t-bones!" that means we have run out of t-bone steaks and can no longer offer them until we are resupplied. If your bartender tells you, "86 is your lucky number", it means he/she thinks you've had too much to drink and it's a nice way of telling you that no more alcohol will be served to you until you sober up.

It means getting permanently banned from a drinking establishment. Quite a feather in your drinking cap if you can pull it off. Few phrases in the English language bespeak of a myseterious darkside more than "I'm not allowed back in there again. And, quite frankly, I don't blame them."
