a friend of mine "jessie" and i like the same guy, "jack". jack has done stuff with her before (like make out and...some other stuff...not sex). i told her that i liked him and all of a sudden she says she likes him again. jessie is the kind of girl who uses guys...more of a tease than anything else and she knows it. they've been "doing stuff" for going on 5 years. one day i was talking to him and another friend "jane" and he was saying that he hates jessie and he was calling her bad names. jane was telling me that lately jack has been saying that he wishes that jessie and i weren't friends. lately i've been finding him staring at me...a lot. jane says that he likes me but she's not sure how much.
advice?

*i feel bad for wanting to go out with him, but it's like they haven't gotten together after 5 years of doing stuff. and yesterday we were at a meet together as was my friend jessie. he was having a bad day and she tried to hug him and he just pulled away. but when i was around him and asked him to walk with me, he would. and then yesterday all these people on our team had decided to "spoon" to keep warm and he told me that i should join him.

He likes you, you should wait to see if he really likes you first. Ask your friend how she really feels about him, whether she actually likes him, or just likes the idea of having him around. Ask her if she plans on getting back together with him soon, if she says yes, then it seems like you have to wait around for a while for "Jack" to deny her. That way, it won't seem like you pushed her from him, he did it of his own accord. Technically, you'd be in the clear to do whatever you want with him because you can't really help liking him and he can't help liking you and no one in that situation can change that - even "Jessie".

you should go out with him if you like him and if jessie gets angry tell her she wasn't dating him

just tell him how you feel about him....if he likes you, he'll give you a chance.
