IDo you have all your w-2's, 1099's, etc. for the previous 3 years? Are you beneficial which you have each and every little thing? If not, then i'd bypass to a tax expert and have them get a transcript from the IRS. they are in a position to get it swifter. Then, the 1st return 2004 would be filed first, then 05,06 & 07. My wager nonetheless in case you have not been getting threating letters from the IRS asserting that they figured which you owed them money for 04, 05, and 06, then you are in all probability due a refund. yet you will desire to report this twelve months because of the fact in case you have been due a refund for 04, and you do not report, you will forfeit the refund. The IRS will purely refund 3 years back. So report and be happy.

I assume "last year" was 2005. You still have time to file for 2006.

First, figure if you owe money or are due a refund. If you are due a refund, relax, there is no penalty. Just file it and get your refund (plus interest).

If you owe taxes for 2005, don't relax. Get it filed immediately, since penalties and interest are accruing. Even if you can't pay, file those taxes now.

Then, file 2006 on time. If you owe taxes from 2005, your 2006 refund, if any, may be used to pay 2005 taxes.

If you mean for 2006, you have until April 15 to file. If you mean for 2005, you should contact your local IRS Tax consultant or someone who does taxes for example H&R Block they could advise you in this matter.

I would file them. I have a friend who didn't file last year and was waiting for her refund this year and they held it. Once she filed last year's, they released it.

First file and extension, so you won't pay penalties. Then examine why you are postponing this? Maybe you find it diffifult to face the paperwork? Examine what is overwhelming you. In my case (I always file late) my accountant never has time and he does sloppy work, so I always have anxiety about his mistakes.
