I have an 18 month old son and I am still trying to lose the baby weight. It has been very difficult to find time to exercise because he is a very needy baby. He constanly wants attention, and by the time his bedtime comes around I am exhausted from chasing him around all day. Does anyone have any weight loss suggestions? Please help

My husband works all day and we only have one car so going to the park or gym is out of the question. Also where we live there are no sidewalks so going for a power walk with a stroller is also not something I can do.

When I was a stay at home mom, with 3 babies 2yrs,1yr and newborn, I would clean house, do yard work, go for walks, take the kids to the park and while they played I power walked around the playground for 30 minutes, by then I was ready to go home, they were tired and ready for a nap. So we went home and they took a nap while I rested some. Then we would get up and finish our day. But now that I am a single mom working a full time job with 2 kids 6yrs and 8 yrs, I don't find much time to excersize, but I do my excersizing while at work. But even now, the kids and I when I am off will go for short walks around our neighbor hood, the kids love it becuase they get to see their friends, and see nature, and learn alot from talking and seeing the wild life.
I also get up an hour before I get kids up, so I can do what I need to do to get ready for the day including my 30 min of excersizing, and then get kids ready for the day. Since they are in school if I wasn't working I wold have more time.

There is no reason why anyone can't get excersize in.

Good luck from one mom to another

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. We recently discovered a site that offers a great program that counts calories, as well as keeps track of everything. It allows multiple users, so everyone in the family can keep track. They offer a free 7 day trial, and so far I am very impressed with the product. Try the 7 days and see. It allows you to add the exercise that you do during the day, which increases the amount of calories you can take in. Very Cool!!

Stay motivated, and get up and walk every day. I seriously lost all my weight starting off my day on my walk.

Good LUCK!

I was a stay at home mom for a long time. I know how difficult it is for you to find even five minutes for yourself. Taking walks with him is one way to get exercise, also you can incorporate him into your work out. My kids are six now and I still use them. I balance them (one at a time) on my feet while i'm laying on my back and push them in to the air to work my thighs and I pick them up kind of like a bench press for my arms. You may be able to find a gym with childcare as well. This will give you an hour or so each day to be alone and recharge. Good luck!!

A few tips...

Start eating healthy foods. No more junk food. Infact, this is a good opportunity to get your entire family on healthier foods. Also, start walking with your baby (with him in a stroller ofcourse). If you take your baby to the park, instead of watching him, get into the games with him. You dont need to dedicate time per se to strictly working out. In general, just get more active with things.

Cant you try working out on his nap time or something?

Hope this helps.

I think it's more effective when a healthier lifestyle is the goal, rather than just shedding of pounds. Learning about nutrition, finding physical activities that you enjoy and therefore will feel fun rather than like work, allowing yourself to "cheat" every once in a while, these are the hallmarks of successful permanent weight loss strategies. It's not about being skinny or not being skinny. There are plenty of skinny people who aren't remotely healthy, who have high cholesterol or diabetes brought on by poor diet and lack of exercise, they just don't show it on the outside so they get less pressure from society as a whole. Learning to be loving to your inner and outer self, and to show that love with self-care rather than with self-depreciation, that will help you in the long run.

Ok.. that doesnt excuse u from going and finding a gym with a daycare. I go to the gym almost everyday. i have a four year old and a 12 month old. and a part time job... and my husband is practically gone alllll week. I also find time to take my kids out for walks and take my four year old hiking once a week... so i dont buy this " i dont have time" excuse.

Put on some fun music and dance around the house, take walks with your son, or take him to a Mom and baby type swim class, which will get you out of the house and talking to other people

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Firstly sort your diet out, start eating the right foods, cut out crisps, sweets, chocolates, bread etc.... Eating healthy will help loads, drink loads of water, and cut down your portions of food, try and eat 3 healthy meals, and when you said you are running after your little one, go to the park, and run around with him, that can be your excerise, it will take time, but it will work.
