I went to a job interview at a fast food restaurant yesterday, and afterwards, the lady said she would call whoever she was hiring on wednesday. Well the application didn't ask for my phone number, so she doesn't have it. Was she just planning on not hiring me from the beginning or what? and should I go back in today and give her my number? Thanks!

Hi -If this is the job you want, I hope you get it!! In answer to your question, you don't need to call to give her your phone number, it is quite proper to call to "see if the position was filled" and "thank her for her time" regardless. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I'd send her a short "thank you for the interview" note and include your phone number.

The note should be on a note card that you can get from any Hallmark or card section of a store. It should be blank except for a tasteful photo on the front. Tasteful is key. The inside should be totally blank for you to write your note to her.

I'd say something like:

Dear Mrs So&So,
"Thank you for taking the time to talk with me about xxx Company. After talking with you, I know xxx Company would be a good fit for me. My telephone number, should you have further questions, is xxx-xxx-xxxx. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Again, I'd like to be a part of the xxx Company team.

Gratefully,
Susie Smith"

Place it in the envelope, lick just the tip of the envelope - not the entire sticky pace. Write her name on the outside.

Everything should be done neatly with perfect spelling. Use your computer for spell-check if you're unsure. Do not cross any thing out or erase. Use black ink if possible. Blue is the only other choice you can use. If you make a mistake - write a brand new card. No mistakes are allowed when you're tryi to get a job.

If you think the US mail will be too slow, take the note in to the place where you applied and leave it for her. Do not ask for her. Ask whoever you speak with first who you should leave it with. If they say "she's right here"...say, "no, that's not necessary. Can you please just be sure she gets this? Thank you so much."

If you had even a remote chance of getting the job - this would do it. If not, say "next" and go apply to their competition down the street.

Always, always in an interview - allow the interviewer to ask the questions. Look the company up on the internet so you know "something" about employment with them....more than "they flip burgers".

Talk half as much as the interviewer - not twice as much. Don't discuss anything personal like boyfriends or girlfriends. Always - always be 5 mintues early. Always.

When you meet the interviewer - and everyone up to the time of the interview - always look them in the eye and shake their hand and say "its vey nice to meet you" - still looking them in the eye. Do not ever take your eyes off of the person you are speaking to. If you do - you probably will not get the job. But, you will next time ;-).

If you question on if you can look someone in the eye and say your name at the same time - practice, practice, practice. Practice a strong - positive handshake. So much is said in a handshake. So much. I've not hired people based just on their limp or sexual handshake.

Smile, be pleasant and remember this forever: "God gave you one mouth and two ears for a reason"...so you speak less and hear more. The interviewer wants to know you are listening to her/him and not thinking about the next question. So, listen.

Good luck with this company and if you don't get it, again, say "next!" and use these strategies at the next interview. A thank you like I wrote above should be sent out or delivered the day after every single interview - without fail.

Hope this helped ;-)

It's unusual that the application didn't ask for a phone number. She may have already decided who she wants. If you want the job, show initiative and make sure she has your number.

I doubt she was just planning on not hiring you from the get go. Yeah you should go give them your number or call them and give it to them.

Ring and say that you imagine you didn't get the job but sould she confirm this as you can't sleep (or whatever) - ask her if there are any other vacancies
