Their religious beliefs have nothing or should have nothing to due with the DUTIES as a police officer. Sometimes a person may be asked to provide protection to a pedophile on his way to a court appearance. This does not signify that the officer agrees with the pedophiles crime. If someone does not want to fully participate in the duty requirements of his/her job, that person should save the taxpayers money and find another occupation.. I believe police officers take a vow To preserve and protect the public--not just those people whom they share ideals with.

Not at all. Police officers take an oath and they have a duty that they must fullfill. Personal beliefs and religion cannot play a factor at all. I am a corrections officer and I deal with rapist and child molestors all the time. I have to protect them from other inmates even though I myself think they should die. Just the other day a guy came in who left his 4 year old in a storage shed till she died. You can't let feelings be a part of the job or you will lose it.

You gotta do the job no matter who it is.
Try this one on for size. I am a white guy, but try protecting 15 "white power" nimrods (no offense to other nimrods) who are yelling and screaming while 100's want to stomp their heads in......secretly including you as an officer.

They should not be excused from such a duty. If it is their job to do so, they should perform it.

Humanistic actions are what their jobs are about. They have to pass psychological exams before they become an officer. I'm sure this area, among many others, would be covered on the test.
