Its called a bear coat and it is completly undesired for breeders, some breeders will produce long haired (bear coats) and try to sell them more or say they are rare etc they are not show quality and should never be bred. in fact when you register pups it asks on the papers if it has the bear coat (RESSESIVE GENE) as for ckc and akc it is undesired. we have never had bear coat pups but we also did alot of research into our bloodlines first.personally and this is just my opinion any breeder trying for the bear coat isnt a breeder at all and is more of back yard breeder. thats just my opinion as i myself breed and show the chinese shar-pei and would never breed for a bear coat but again just my opinion and no offence to anyone.. good luck!! but again all dogs deserve to be loved and treated like family no matter if they are heinz 57 or purebred or with or with out faults. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/sharpeiphotos.htm

It's called a bear coat Shar-Pei.

It looks kind of nice but is technically a fault and such dogs can't be shown.

No, I don't have any and actually never knew they even existed. But sure enough I looked online and here they are!
The Bearcoat Shar-Pei:
Bearcoats can be easily misidentified as mixed ChowChow and/or other long haired breed mixes. Bearcoats are not accepted as breed standard.

I haven't seen one but would like to see a pic of one. The breeders when they have one in a litter usually put them to sleep since they aren't supposed to have long hair.
