Madge, I am not a doctor. I do not think that your tonsils, after you had them surgically removed, would be causing you any discomfort if they are already gone. Were your tonsils taken out recently? When you read this, I would encourage you to go to the Web MD web pages or perhaps the web pages of your health insurer, and post your inquiry there. There, you will at least be able to get a qualified answer to this question. In the interim, gargle with a solution of warm salt water and spit it out. I have also had good relief from a sore throat using Chloraseptic Throat Spray; this is an OTC product you will find in your local grocery or pharmacy. Good luck.

No you can't really get tonsillitis if you have no tonsillar tissue, but you are no less likely to get sore throats than the next man/woman.
Statistically 85% of these will be viral, which do not of course respond to antibiotics at all.
Overall if you do give antibiotics for a sore throat, and this should be restricted to narrow spectrum, penicillin V if no allergy and erythromycin if there is a penicillin allergy, again statistically, the illness is only shortened by 24 hours.
Plenty of fluids, paracetamol or ibuprofen ( but only if no asthma or ulcer history.) Don't gargle with salt or aspirin, but you can use things like Chlorseptic spray or Diflamm.
If things don't settle see your GP.

your tonsills are what help stop an infection form reaching your digestive system so when you have them removed removed you are more prone to a throat infection, if you are getting pains in you ears nose and throat you might just have a sinus problem and you need to go to the doctor and find out exactly whats up with you.

Sounds like you need antibiotics soon. Those infections are awful and do not go away on their own. It can't be your tonsils if they have been removed.
