It depends on your body chemistry. Some people do build up a tolerance. They get to a point where the Xanax (or other drugs) don't have the same effect as they once did. As a nurse, I have seen this many times. But then there are some that can stay on the same dosage for years and it still work well for them. The only way you will know for sure is to take the drug, see how it works for you over time. As for myself, I can't take many drugs for long, because it has this effect on me. I have to be careful and not take something very often.

Just have a days break twice a week, what your taking isn't a lot and i don't think there's a huge risk for any uncontrollable addiction, later on you most likely will need a little more each day but that's pretty normal and if you ever get seriously hooked then you'll just have to seek medical advice to slowly wein you down back to a dose that suits and is beneficial to you. If you don't have any drug or alcohol abuse probs in the past then it is more unlikely that you will have a problem. hope all goes well and let your Dr know your thinking of increasing the dose a little cause your not getting the desired effect, it could well be you just need that bit extra.

Your body does develop a tolerance to medications and that is the reason most Dr's start a patient on a lower dose of meds and slowly increase them to a normal level. Now, what's normal for you may be different for whats normal for another person. Be sure the Dr. knows about how you are feeling so he can make the correct adjustments.

Hi, You didn't say if your Dr had progressed you up to 2mg,or, if he started you out on that doseage. Talk to Dr. If you can maintain on a lower doseage, your tolerance will be slower to build up. I would think that a smaller doseage daily would help you with your anxiety. i am on .50 3 times daily. Most days(good days) I can get by with one at night. I have chronic insomnia. You know the bars can be broken into 4 pieces. Spacing them might slow tolerance.

Yes without doubt your body will gradually develope a tolerance to xanax & you will need a higher dose to obtain the same effect. All benzediazepams are physically & psychologically addictive & once you withdraw from them, you will suffer some nasty side effects including rebound anxiety. I would advise you talk to your doctor

It is my understanding that you do develop a tolerance to Xanax -- that your body gets used to it and requires higher dosages to get the same effect. I've also been told that withdrawl from Xanax suddenly can be very difficult. Please discuss this with your doc. Good luck.
