At work I tend to lend a friend my sports magazines that I get from the company. Only recently did I discover that he reads it exclusively in the bathroom. I always lend to him first so I do want it back as I still have not read it yet. Am I making too much of this or is it unsanitary not to mention rude/disgusting? I guess I can simply say no next time or should I just tell him not to bring it in there instead? Didn't realize I had to regulate other people's reading materials but it bothers me when I found out what it's used exclusively for.

I've thought of reading it first but I have a tendency to keep issues and there's no way I can read an entire issue at work before he goes once a day. And keep in mind, ladies, before you answer: We're talking about MEN's bathrooms here so it's pretty gross in there.

You're as bad as my daughter.. she gets annoyed when I take her magazines into the bathroom too!

But what do you think people DO with the magazine in there? Use it for toilet paper? Do you think that everything that goes into the bathroom comes out disgusting? If you do, you better not ever go in there yourself!

Yes totally. I People don't get that there is fecal matter on the faucet handles, door trim, door handles etc. Some think "I only peed". Yes well you touched the toilet seat or flush handle. I have always thought of library books. EW? One day I saw my 91 year old father reading a library book at the kitchen table - licking his fingertip before her turned the pages. Can you imagine how many bathrooms, maybe even bathroom floors that book has been on? Someone may have dropped it on the floor of the bus or laid it down in pigeon poop in the park. ew. Just like the black light hotel room test on 60 minutes. And the airplane blanket & pillow test on 20/20

Could you not bring it to work and maybe just read it at home? Or ask him to make sure he washes his hands because of germs. I think he would understand if you think about what is the best way to tell him about the problem. Tell him you have always had a fear of picking up germs in public places like a men's room.

I get where you are coming from......hygiene is hygiene and I would feel a bit uncomfortable with him fingering my pages while he is on the crapper doing his business. Obviously, he would go through the wiping process which leaves you to question "where does he put the magazine during this process?", then after this procedure is completed, he then picks up the magazine or does he leave it until AFTER HE WASHES HIS HANDS? Are you certain he is a hand washer at all? Nope, no more mags until AFTER YOU have read them.

I think that you should save a couple issues for the [special occasion] and just tell him bluntly that you are not comfortable with him using your material for that kind of activity until you are completely done with the magazine.

It would bother me to. I wouldn't want the magazine after he probably scratched and read my magazine. It is gross. I would either keep him from getting the magazine or just not read it anymore. It is thoughtless of him to do this.

I never did understand this reading in the bathroom stuff. Just go in there and do what ya gotta do and get out.
Now if it were a playboy that he was taking in there, I would definately not want it back, cuz who knows what could be on it!

Yes I would mind because they could stink up your magazine and you probably wouldn't like it. That's a personal opinion of course

You are making too much of this, or read it first then loan it out when you are done. Just get ahead of him.
