My daughter got a beautiful hand knitted quilt from my aunt when she was a baby I have been cherishing the quilt and now that she is six and with her own bedroom I would love to hang it on the wall. The quilt is knitted and very delicate since it can get torn easily, it is also white and gets dirty very fast, but it is beautiful. I would hate having it in storage for more time. Any ideas?

Because of the naure of knitting, it cannot be hung. Try a shadow box. Put some toys in with it, and it will stay looking great for years.

You have to be careful about the weight of the fabric. If it will sag under its own weight, don't hang it. It will get all out of shape. You could consider having it put in a frame. If you think it can handle being hung without a frame, there are quilt hangers you can get that are like huge wooden clips that hold the fabric without putting holes in it. Check a craft store. (People at the store might be able to assess whether the quilt is too heavy and give you other alternatives.)

You can buy a quilt hanging kit from a good quilt shop or craft store. There is a fabric sleeve that you sew to the top back clear across. A rod goes through it and rests on brackets you screw to the wall. The sleeve evens out the weight so you aren't carrying all the weight from the corners and that works very well. I have antique quilts hanging that way and also one I made myself. Good Luck and God Bless

I don't think I would hang it, because its knit. It would lose its shape. I would drape it over a chair or at the foot of her bed. Now if it was a quilt that would be different. Hope this helps!

I agree with Saaanen, knitted quilts, blankets, affhans cannot be hung. They will stretch and be ruined.

Since it is really special you need to find another way to display it.

You can frame it. or use a type of shadow box. Both ways will keep it protected.
