I've tried EVERYTHING. Nothing helps. Not water (I drink MORE than eight glasses a day sometimes), not eating prunes, not fiber (every day, yet again), not laxatives, not softeners, not vegetables, nor fruits. I went to the emergency room yesterday because the pain in my abdomen was so bad, and after five hours of waiting and apparently useless tests, they sent me home with a laxative. Again.
I don't know what to do, and I can't stop crying because it hurts so much. I haven't gone to the bathroom in a week. Someone help.

They ran an x-ray, and told me there wasn't a blockage.

I have NOT tried an enema, but I've considered it. It seems too extreme, and I want to do it if it'll help. Thing is...I'm not sure how to, and I'm too afraid to. Does anyone have more info on that to share? Is there anyway a doctor could do it for me?

Thank you, Danielle, I'll definitely try it now. I'm scared to, but you make it sound okay. :3

I've always been interested in Zelnorm...should I bring that up with a doctor? Obviously I'm going to have to go again, if this keeps up.

I saw Miralax at the store--non-prescription, and picked it up in case I need it.

You can buy a Fleets enema at any drugstore. The directions with illustrations are in the box. It's very simple to administer by yourself. It's small and self contained, so you don't need any special equipment. It's best to run the container under warm water for awhile to warm the solution. I think this is better than a suppository because it truly helps loosen the hard stool. There are a couple different kinds. You can try any of them.
Ask your doctor to refer you to a gastroenterologist. They will have more specific tests and ideas on how to treat you.

Accupuncture is the best cure, but not everyone wants to go that route. Without it I probably would still be waiting to go after about three weeks.
Ok, Zelnorm is probably not what you need, it will help constipation, but it is for a more serious condition. What you should ask your doctor for is something called Miralax. It is by perscription right now, and is very strong and very good, works pretty quickly no matter how stuffed you are. It will be over the counter in about 6 months or so. But it is by far the safest thing you can use. You can use an enema or suppository for now, but in the long run you just get addicted to them.

The more you worry, the worse it becomes. Now do this (after reading this or if you prefer you can take a print out and read it after lying down).
Relax by taking a few deep breaths. Now place your palms facing down on your stomach (both hands are side by side on your stomach). Invite Reiki (which I am sending to you as a free gift) to flow through you and heal you. Offer thanks to Reiki (not to me, not needed). Keep relaxed and breathe slowly and deeply for about 15 minutes or till you feel that it is enough.
Don't expect immediate results but I assure you that you will become better in a short time.
If possible, get Bryonia 200 liquid and Magnesia Phos 12X tablets from a homeoapthic shop. Take Magnesia Phos tablets (about 6-10 numbers) dissolved in a little hot water. Take Brynia with a dropper (5-10 drops) in a little warm water after a gap of about 30 minutes from the Mag. Phos.
I wish you well.

CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE - http://www.drnatura.com/.
The product called COLONIX is supposed to be very effective for constipation and other stomach problems. Basically, it's a colon cleanser. I haven't tried it but I do have some of the Kleri tea. The last time I was constipated I used the Kleri Tea and it was very effective. I steeped the Kleri Tea for only one minute and drank it around 8pm. The next morning around 5:30am I had a massive (and scary looking) bowel movement. What a relief.
Forget the drugs the Dr gives you. They aren't going to clean you out the way they should. They just relax your colon if anything, and that's not the root of the problem.
Anyway just check out the website and see what you think. I hope everything comes out alright for you. Get it?
Really though...I wish you the best.

My baby just started solids, and she's breastfed, but she still gets really constipated with the solids. She went 5 days without pooping once! The doctor told us to mix breastmilk or formula in a bottle with a tablespoon of molasses or dark Karo syrup. She said we could also try a teaspoon of Miralax (stool softener) and if that didn't work to try a tablespoon. We tried the Miralax the first time, and she pooped the next day, and it was soft. The second time she went 5 days, we tried the Karo syrup and it worked within 5 hours. If it gets really bad, you might try those options.

You need the really strong laxatives that they give you when they need to clear you out for a colonoscopy, that's the only thing that works for me, I have suffered like you. I don't think you can get it over the counter, you will probably need a prescription. It is called "Picolax".
Get back to your Doctor and insist that you are getting really ill from this.
You probably need to have these regularly. and after a while can switch to Fybogel or senna. I am currently on senna and docusate, three each per day, it's the only way I am able to go regularly.

Make an appointment with a doctor and explain to them that this is a recurring problem and fill them in on your history of laxative use etc. I am sure they will do testing to find out what your problem is. Or go back to the emergency room.

OW! I sympathise, darling. I had this a while back, you can get these glycerin pessaries that you put up your bum. It sort of shoots up there like a rocket and then melts. It doesn't hurt at all but feels weird. After about 5 minutes u will need the toilet, so RUN. the glycerin is good because it provides a soft coating to your bum so it makes it all much less painful. I hope that helps you. You have my sympathy, x

Go back to the emergency room, maybe you have a blockage. Also call your primary doctor on Monday too and let him know what's been going on.
Also, you might need to be referred to a gastroenterologist because maybe you think you are constipated but maybe you have something like Chron's or Ulcerative Colitis that is extremely painful.
I have Ulcerative Colitis and it can be hard to diagnose.

The only thing I can think of is oil. Fat's can really "lubricate" shall we say? try two table spoons of normal vegetable oil. it will take a while before it has gone through, but it helps if I can't go. I put just lots of extra oil in my food and I don't see why you couldn't just take two spoons for medical reasons. you eat it anyway.... if you really can't bear it anymore, (and I know it can hurt because I have Crohn's disease) , go to hospital again. pain is never ok, whatever else they tell you.
