I do pilates at home from a workout DVD. I remember the first time I tried it I thought it looked so easy and then when I started doing it I couldn't believe how much my body was sore afterwards. Pilates is slow movements that totally work almost every muscle group. I have a flabby stomach and skinny legs so I do Pilates 3 days a week to tone my abs as well as my legs. It really works. I recommend it.

Pilates is not just one exercise but there are over 500 different exercises in the Pilates method.

Basically Pilates uses slow, yet deliberate movements to reshape your body. You focus on your problem areas, while using many of your major muscle groups.

Pilates is best is your want a long, lean body and not necessarily looking for a cardio workout (although you will be getting an incredible cardio workout).

If you have problem areas like a flabby stomach or thunder thighs, you can concentrate on those areas and see very quick results.

Many people say that Pilates is a bit like yoga and it is. Both use slow movements that are best when performed with full concentration but unlike yoga, Pilates is more for the body and less for the mind. Unlike any other type of exercise, Pilates can transform your body in an incredibly short amount amount of time. You can usually start to see results in just 2 weeks!

I do Pilates 3 times a week and love it.

You can perform Pilates on it's own without any extra equipment (that's how I do it) or you can purchase a Pilates machine which can run $300 and up (with good ones being $900 or more).

Pilates is good for people who don't really like to do major workouts, like running 10 miles or something like that.

Pilates is a little like yoga, where you strech out your body to a confortable point.

It definitely works, but has a slower result time. You don't see the results in the first 2 or 3 months.

It really depends on the type of pilates you do to see what parts of your body it works. Harder pilates does more, while easier ones do less.

Good luck!
