Whilst living in France I loved the drink Kir Royale which is made up of white wine and some sort of "cassis" spirit/mixer. Does anyone know what this second ingredient is (and if it is alcoholic) and if it is available anywhere in the UK?

You can get Cassis from Morrisons and it comes in different flavours, cherry/ Blackcurrent etc. You want the Blackcurrent one as Kir Royale is basically fizzy wine(cava) with blackcurrent cordial but Cassis is alcoholic....

simply add a dash of creme de cassis to a glass of champagne. really just a dash it should be a light pink colour like rose wine not a deep purple. creme de cassis is widely available in the uk. try a decent supermarket or off-licence

Yes you can get Cassis. Large Hypermarkets sell it, also good off licences.

De Kyper make it and they call it Creme de Cassis.
