He may not remember the party when he's grown, so take a lot of pictures and look at them together.
Also you should consider postponing the party til his friends can be there, that would make it a lot more fun for him.

Take him to a zoo...a petting zoo if they have one. Kids
love animals and it's never too early to show him all the
creatures that we share the earth with. If he likes to throw
himself to the ground and have a screaming fit, then have
a little party at home with an animal based theme,
decorations in the shapes of animals, animal crackers
and animal baloons.. You can get animal videos
and an animal sounds CD to play. Shape the foods he
will eat into animals via plastic moulds. If there is a pony
ride near by, you could take him there...it's one of my
first memories...at 3....and I still think about it sometimes.

Though he is too young to remember his birthday party when he grows up you can make that day happy and worth remembering [atleast for you] : _ make him feel special by not scolding him for minor things unlike other days and telling him that its his special day. _ buying cake though he wont eat it. _ arrange a small party with his few friends and neighbours. _give him a gift for which he is crazy since long. Also a birthday dress. _take photographs of his birthday party. _remember though he doesnt understand what is birthday he must experience that special feeling and your love.Even if he experiences a good change on that day it is a worthwhile effort.

Go to a craft store and get tie dye. Go to target and get a bunch of small and extra small sized white shirts. Get a bag of rubber bands and let the kids tie all the knots and dunk the knots into the dye. This way, they get a fun activity and they get a party favor all at the same time. Worked great for me on my girl's 3rd. She wore that shirt to bed for almost two years. So..get them a little big!

I have three kids and they don't remember their third b-day. but I do remember all of the time and $$ we spent. Keep it simple and video tape it and show him when he gets older.
