You would be better off keeping your XP for a while. Many programs that you have don't work with Vista and you will have to invest $$ to get them replaced. Also all the programs need to get the bugs out of them before they are going to work right...I would wait!!

You may have problems with space after you install Windows Vista. With 5GB left after a 15GB install, you can almost do nothing with that much space nowadays.

Even if you have to install Windows Vista, install it from Windows XP instead of booting it from the DVD when you restart your computer because Windows Vista booting sequence have changed and if you do not do it correctly, you may not boot Windows XP! You need not need to reformat the hard disk, but it is always a good idea to backup your stuff.

Also (just for your own info), with Windows XP and Windows Vista side-by-side, your system restore may not work once you boot one from another because the system restore tends to cancel out those version they do not recognise.

You'll have big problems...the VISTA is a RAM hog. Need at least 1 gig of RAM to just service VISTA. As for HD space 20 gigs on a non primary drive is a big mistake. Wait and just get another computer.

I'm pretty sure that vista only requires 15gb to install correctly, not sure if this is basic or ultimate(i know, big difference). As for formatting a hard drive, i'm pretty sure that u can format it by simply right clicking on D: in my computer and selecting format, just remove everything from it 1st.

other person was correct
vista should be on c drive
not on a secondary non active partion
you get nothing but troubles installing to other than the main drive

beside vista right now is buggy
get a biiger drive and wait for sp1 to come out
until then xpsp2 rocks
beside xpsp2 has little to no drm , unlike vista

sure. First you ought to make sure you're allowed to place on your reproduction of XP on greater effective than one device. If this is an argument. in any different case, if your XP cd is bootable, then be sure the device is thoroughly grew to become off, and the cd is interior the cd tension. turn on the device, while it asks what you opt for for as properly from, choose for cd. in the process the setup you would be asked in case you opt for for to format the stress, and/or upload/del/erase partitions. be sure you delete the present partition, and create a clean one, utilising optimal quantity of area allowed, and setting up XP. sturdy success.
