Well it is your life not your friend's life, so you decide if you want to go out with him. If your friends don't support you making your own decisions then they may not really be your friends.

Tell him you would like to get to know him before you go out with him! Then you can decide for yourself if you want to go out with him! Then if you don't like him just let him know you aren't interested in him in that way!
