Is cough syrup safe for infants?

I recently heard through the grape vine that giving cough syrup to babies is now unsafe waht is the reasoning? Was it referring to children being given adult cough syrup or possibly syurp with codine which may overdose them... Anyone know why????

i didn't mean giving adult cough syrup to kids but rather childrens cough suyrp I heard that cough syrup period as bad to give ant infant.... is this true

The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) has not determined a safe dose in children under two years for many of the over-the - counter drugs commonly given to children. Recently, it was reported that three infants died with elevated level of pseudoephedrine in their systems.
Also, the American Academy of Pediatrics has stated that cough and cold preparations are of very limited effectiveness.

An infant does is a lot less than an adult dose

adult medicines have ingredients not made for infants-medicines usually have ages to give that paticular brand. it is hard to cut the dose down for children how would you figure to break down 2 tablespoons for a child of 5? a childs digestive system is not developed yet to handel these ingred.
