Our location has a lit up cake table as an option. We're considering it, but unsure. We'd appreciate your opinions since we are tied with people who do & don't like it. The cake is different from mine, of course, & the table in the background won't be there blocking doors since our set up is different.

Don't worry about offending...we are torn between "how pretty!" to "wait...is that tacky?" :)

About changing the lighting, what you see is what you get. It's how it's built, so we can't alter it since the lights are attached.

About my cake...it is 3 tiers that are seperate but on top of each other like this cake. You can't tell they are seperate, however, due to roses being between each layer. It's not much of a simple cake.

I think it has the potential to be really elegant rather than tacky. However, I would buy or rent a table linen to put over the table to "mute" the bright lights. This way you would have more of a soft glow underneath the cake. Or, if your budget could handle it, I would buy a garland with your flower colors (a nice one, not a scraggly, cheap-o) and slide it around the base of the glass to soften the light construction underneath. This way the only light seen is underneath the glass and not such an illuminated side-view of the lights inside. Then from the view of the guests, the garland would have some backlighting but not be so intense. If it's free to use-I would go for it! (Personally, I just think the lights are too strong without some softening from a fabric.)
Good Luck!

I can see the pretty and I can see the tacky.
But what I can't really see is the cake.
I think that the lights draw your eye to the table top and not to the cake. So all you see is TABLE in this picture. (I think that is why some people think it is tacky).
I think that it is pretty, but I think that it could actually detract attention from your cake itself (and your cake sounds too pretty to do that) rather than hightlight the cake. I just imagine in a darkened candlelight room all you'd see is this glowing table, but kind of miss the cake itself.
It would also depend on the lighting throughout the room (if it will it be dark, then the table may be too much of a contrast and put the cake in a shadow - but if it will be brighter in the room, or if there is other decorative white lighting elsewhere, it may be okay).
Or balance it by also lighting the cake with something that would better direct light upwards or lighting the cake from above.
But -- I do kind of like it. You could also placing your table number cards on? Or punch fountain? Or gift/cards? Or some other purpose
good luck

I think it would be nice if your cake isn't in tiers like this one is. In this cake the table takes away from the cake. If you had offset layers of cake it would be nicer as it would light all the layers not just put emphasis on the bottom of the cake.. How does this set up look for cake cutting under lighting sometimes gives nasty shadows I would want to see pics of a couple standing beside the lighted table to make sure there aren't strange shadows on my face (family and friends will be taking pics too not just a photographer)

I like it
It is something different and neat
At my friends wedding they just had a plain white layered cake on a plain round covered table and it was just to....well too PLAIN lol ... no flower or anything so your idea it different and fun
I like it
But you said you cake it not simple well maybe it would be overpowering but you should give it a try and see how it looks if your cake is not to over the top than it might work
Good Luck and Congrats!

This is my opinion only... I like the idea of having the round cake table... but the fact that it lights up like that looks a little tacky to me... maybe just a nice round table with a white long table cloth would look more traditional and less flashy.

Oh, my! I think it looks so pretty! I'm jealous! I would definetly go with it. Personally, I don't think it looks tacky, but who cares if others do. If you like it, then go for it. It is unique, b/c not every place offers it. I like the idea of having my wedding be unique, but my friend who is planning hers right now too does not want anything unique or different. Just trust your first instinct.

I think that is really pretty!! You can't get tacky with white lights and tulle. It looks very pretty and unique. It's a great way to show off your cake!

Oh, my. I do not like it at all. With the heat from the bulbs, won't that cause your icing to melt some. If they could tone it down and maybe use a pastel colored bulb or something like that, but, I would say no. Sorry, much tooooo tacky.

I like it. I think if the surrounding lighting was dim, it would really stand out.
I would try losing the rope lighting. It kind of distracts, making it look like a carnival.
