the bottom line is that mini DV is still the best format for editing because it has the best video quality (not compressed as the mpeg2 videos in DVDs), and the highest compatibility with video editing programs.

Definately mini DV. This format far strips DVD for versatility and reusability. Dare I say image quality also. It will be around for many moons yet.
Consider a machine that has 3CCD.... Colour resolution is far superior.
You probably have a wide screen TV yes? Then make sure the camera records in 16:9 ratio. Camera stabilisation... forget it, just learn to hold the camera better.
My tip is to swerve past the Canons, Sonys, JVCs and head straight for a Panasonic dealer. The GS range is very well regarded. I have the GS250, it purrs.

because of compression subject matters, with HDD and flash stress camcorders, Mini-dv nonetheless offersn the perfect high quality video. Mini-dv has been round for see you later it has a shown music record, each and each of the numerous, makers have them, from the most inexpensive to the semi professional, even professional grade cameras use tape, until eventually its direct feed, its a touch confusing to guage professional cameras to even semi professional. of route funds is a aspect, yet when you're planning on spending a lifelike volume of funds, then tape will out carry out the different format. All my cameras are tape depending, tried the others, yet continuously went again to tape. reliable luck RR

If you want to edit, stick with miniDV. You can edit the mpeg2 from a DVD camera, but it's much slower (the PC has to do a lot more work) and the quality suffers.

miniDV=cheap cameras at low end, pro cameras at high end, cheap media, high quality, easy to edit, pro format
DVD=more expensive than miniDV at low end, way below miniDV at high end, expensive media, easy to pop in DVD player and watch, hell to edit, medium quality, consumer format.
What do YOU think?
Hope this helps!

The Canon ZR850 is a great one. If you want it I saw it at Ritz Camera, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics/RitzCamera.com-Priority-Codes/index.html for a discount
