Just basing this on how often I personally drive my car...
I fill up about 12 gallons per week on my car which gets about 16 miles per gallon and I travel about 200 miles total.
So, calculating that out, I'm running about 800 miles per month, 48 gallons per month, 9,600 miles per year, 576 gallons of gas per year.

That probably varies on where the person lives. I live in a city and use more because it's a larger city. I go through a tank of gas a week, which I think is 13 gallons for my car. Some people live alot closer to where they work though or may even be able to walk. I also know people who commute 45 minutes or more to work every day. To answer your question better, I think there is such an extreme variance that it would be hard to find an accurate average.

I drive a CR-v and use about 7-8 gallons a week, I don't have a very long commute to work but do a fair bit of running around town getting the kids places.

I, personally, are using two gallons weekly. I use alternative transportation for commuting, recreational, and shopping.
I own two motor vehicles. I'm considering a third fueled by
LPG.
