I mean, who does it really help to spend two months salary on something which anyone worth marrying wouldn't know or care how much it cost, anyway?

Absolutely nothing! It's just a marketing ploy from jewellers and diamond merchants. What you say is absolutely true; a mature woman just wants the question! The ring is purely symbolic. Really. We work and can buy our own dressy rings!

This helps the Jewelry store just as the Diamonds are forever campaign does. Personally I am wearing a Sapphire (I know the price of it and I think it might be 2 months salary for a squeegee boy) I picked it myself because I loved it. My wedding band was $50 with shipping (Gotta love EBay) its Tungsten (very durable which is why we picked it) Pick what you love what means something my wedding band came from ebay because the girls at the JEwlery store kept tryingto push a diamond on me that I didn't want. My hbusband works oilfield in Alberta so I could have had a very big rock but ithat isn't me.

the two months' earnings is merely a handbook, it is not written in stone. you are able to spend greater, or you are able to spend much less. this is greater substantial to purchase her something that she'll LOVE; in spite of everything, she'll be wearing it something of her life. case in point, locate out what type of metallic she likes, the form of the stone, the carat, and so on. rings shops also have a layaway plan so which you will pay for it over the years. Do alot fo study, ask a lot of questions. by ability of ways, the jewellery shops also have a clearance area, the place you ought to purchase an quite mind-blowing diamond ring at a sturdy decrease fee. merely as substantial by way of fact the hoop itself, is your suggestion. Make it as specific and as memorable as you are able to.

Get the ring that is within your budget. Some of these so call rules are put out there by the people that are served by it. If I followed that, I would've spent over $10k on a ring and my wife is very happy with the ring (she picked) for $3k. Just do your research on the 4 Cs of a diamond ring and don't get suckered into buying a ring for more than its actually worth.

Try this sites, you'll get a general idea of the cost of the diamond itself. (not recommending either site, they're just laid out pretty and the selection is pretty large)

It starts the foundations of a relationship based on financial insecurity, dude! 2 months, my butt! Save money for the down payment on a home. That two months thing was started by those jerk-faces in the diamond industry to separate you from your cash. And the women eat it up, because they like shiny things. When my future wife told me about the "2 month's salary rule" I laughed my butt off and told her not to get her hopes up. Instead of a shiny rock on a finger, she has a hubby that's financially stable.

It is something that the jewelry companies brought about to get them more money when someone wants to propose.

What it SHOULD be is the amount you can afford without going into debt or taking out a loan.

that 2 month salery thing is so old, my fiancé didn't spend that on my ring, and to tell you the truth, it doesn't really matter, i love him, and i love the ring he got me, way bigger than i was expecting, but no where near 2 month salery. and you are right, anyone worth marrying wouldn't care anyways.

Makes you overspend. Puts you in debt. Its just a gimmick designed for your lady, along with the latest 3 stone con.
Past, present whatever

It is 3 months salary, and it is a DO NOT TOUCH FUND--for a time of emergency or a time for long-term plan and you keep saving this amount until u reach higher goals. This has nothing to do with a ring.
