I have suffered panic attacks, and they are scary stuff. No matter how hard you try to reason with yourself, once the panic sets in all reason flys out the window.Drs put me on EVERYTHING and I finally went back to my first medicine. Xanax, yeah i know it gets a bad rap, but, for people like us it is a Godsend. Start with small dosage. I take .50 mg as needed, up to 3times daily, if necessary. Most days I only take one before bedtime(chronic insomnia). They work within 5 min. Just knowing that you have something that will help you can prevent panic attacks. I really wish you all the best. This is a hard thing to live with ,and if you've had one, it's impossible to understand.

1st be aware that it is happening
then breath in through your nose and our through your mouth concentrate on your breathing this allows more oxygen to your brain and allows you heart to stop trying to get out of your chest. Ignore all those around you who are panicking and just sit and breath, If you can go outside and do this it also helps. Panic attacks are caused by stressful situations once these are identified you can try to dealt with another way. If you awaken like this know that you are 'in control' and can get your body 'in control' by deep steady breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth

Behaviorists claim that you can prevent them by being aware of their onset and causes. Once you know what causes them, you can take steps to get out of the situation, o you can retrain yourself to react differently.
