OK I know Carnival is we t'ing. But I love Christmas and for me going home for Christmas is better than going for Carnival. With all the food, drinking and visiting people you know and people who you don't know it couldn't be better.

Before you answer think about when last you went paranging or wake up Christmas morning to these things:

1) Mummy put up new curtains and the living room look like something from a catalogue.

2) Christmas morning the house smelling of fresh baked bread and sweetbread.

3) The one time a year you eating Turkey.

4) It bount to rain Christmas evening.

5) Christmas is not Christmas without a Scunter song "Ah want a piece of pork?"

6) Puncha cream!!

7) Friends coming over to your house with not a gift in hand but ready to eat and drink you out of house.

8) No work on Boxing Day.

9) A Boxing Night Fete.

10) New Years Night band launching fete.

Feel free to add to the list and let me know what you think.

I was just thinking about that again when I came across your question. I am so glad that I am not the only one that is feeling like this.
I think that we as "trinies" know how to live life. I didn't know this until I moved to another country (USA) and got older. I was in love with the High Tech., the modern developments, the infrastructure, the power of the Greenback, every thing that I couldn’t get in Trinidad. But I lost the best thing in Life, and that’s spending time with my friends and my family Trini-style.
So to answer you question, I think it does no interfere with Christmas by any significant way because every day in Trinidad is another Christmas or carnival day Trini-style. lol

No pine Christmas trees for we...a guava branch wrapped in cotton wool.
The smell of varnish everywhere - the floors, the furniture, everything man
The only smell stronger than the varnish was the rum - from the ponch a creme, the black cake and grandad's private stock!
Soca Santa, wearing Bermuda shorts
Was there a Scouting (Scrunting) for Talent Christmas show? I remember Best Village would have parang like it was out of style.
Waiting for the latest Scrunter soca parang and the inevitable enraged female "reply"
Uncle, how you could forget - ham and hops! ham and hops! I shame for you.

Thanks for the memories...

For me, Carnival really affects MY christmas holiday. Most times christmas is rushed out of the way so that carnival can be started.
