Dear the UAW is part of the AFL-CIO. Just in case you didn't know. Sorry to hear that as well. Damn it!!! Imagine how those ppl in St Louis felt when Ford packed up and left.

I don't know about the AFL-CIO, but I know the UAW is good for crap. I worked in 2 UAW shops and when they both closed up the union didn't get us crap. Anytime I had any problems, I ended up fighting with the company myself.

Unions had their purpose in the beginning, but now, just like the government, the ones at the top make all the money at the expense of the working class.

I think that Unions began as a wonderful concept, then spiraled out of control until they started hurting not only the people they were created to protect, but the industries they are working for.

People often ask: Why are companies out sourceing overseas? I've got a great answer: When you are paying someone with a high school diploma over $30/hr to turn a wrench, therefore passing the costs off to the consumer which drives you out of business = either you go overseas or sell the company, who is, or likely to go, overseas.

It is sad and pathetic, but if the U.S. doesn't get it's head out of it's tail soon, our trade deficit will drive our economy into the ground. Unemployment will be at biblical perportions and we will be lucky if we survive as a nation.

And that is just the national economy issue...don't get me started on the issues with the worker/union relationship.

It is a mess and is going to get much worse before it gets any better. So, yes, I do believe that either the AFL-CIO needs to clean up it's act and start doing what it was designed to do, or get out of the U.S. before it destroys the entire economy.

It looks like they are trying to play both sides of the issue. Decent wages and also saying illegals are OK...which they aren't because they have broken laws without thought to what it does to the US. I agree they are selling the US out.
