I read a response where hell will be almost 12,000 degrees. Where does this information come from? And if I abhor the cold and love vacations to hot climates, shouldn't I make travel arrangements for hell?

I love it.

That's like a joke I read where a professor asked his philosophy students on a test whether hell was exothermic (expells heat) or endothermic (takes in heat). It was a great joke; if I could just remember it I'd write it....

anyway, if you really want to go to Hell, you should probably make travel arrangements for Salt Lake City! I've lived around here for just a few years and I'm telling you, it sucks.

The Bible does not teach such a thing and God would never torment his imperfect creation forever. Our Creator is a God of love, justice and mercy.
Even we use humane ways to execute hardened criminals. We do not endlessly torture them, no matter what they've done. The God we worship has promised to do away with hell, which is where all who die are buried. Death & hell will be thrown into the symbolic "lake of fire" which stands for total destruction.

They say hell is hot because it is referred to as a lake burning with fire and where the flesh is not consumed.

12k degrees? Hardly. God is trying to warn us that it is a place that you do not want to go and that the way out is free for the asking.

Because there is the story about the rich man who was thirsty in the New Testament, and there is a passge in the Bible that says that Hell is to be cast into the Lake of Fire.

Fire represents cleansing (taking out the garbage). You don't need to make arrangements for hell. Your ready, all you need is your birthday suit.
