Yes the sun lightens your hair but you have to spend quite some time sunbathing and stuff if you want it to LIGHTEN.Don't get your hopes up about the weather,I'm from Greece, which is right next to Italy, and in March there's always rain and stuff.March is supposed to be cold cloudy and rainy. Why don't you just get highlights this way you get to pick the exact color and brightness for your hair?Don't forget we're not supposed to stay in the sun a lot-it's dangerous and it's bad for your hair too!
Anyway enjoy your vacation and I'm sure you're gonna love Italy I've been there and everybody is like:"Amore, gelatto?"and "Ciao bella!"and stuff...They're even worse than Greek guys !lol!
Have fun

Hi,
Usually it lightens your hair, but it depends of persons, because some persons have their hair darkened with the sun.
And then, something is pretty strange after all.
In Italy, usually people have dark hair and it is very sunny.
In Scandinavian countries, it's not that sunny and cold and their hair is blond.
It was just a remark.
You always can wear a hat to evoid your hair to change the color.
Have a good vacation.

Your hair in basic terms lightens because of the fact the solar bleaches the pigment. Your skin darkens because of the fact the extra it particularly is uncovered to the solar, the better the melanin count quantity receives. The melanin supplies your skin a darker colour and it protects your skin from the solar.

Hi
The sun lightens hair however yours sounds like it was dyed blonde.
I found that when my hair was dyed blonde it used to go brassy after a whiile and get the orange tinge you mentioned. People told me to use a 'purple' shampoo its meant to get rid of the orange tinge but I never found that they work.
I think my problem was that my hairs naturally dark so blonde wasnt a good idea as the colour just didnt stay clean looking.
Its can be caused by chemicals in the air or even in the water... but its just something that happens on some hair too.
Maybe go darker... the sun should lighten your hair thou a bit but not drastically in the amound of time of a holiday.

The majority of peoples hair lightens in the sun.
Often natural highlights become visible, however if hair has been coloured repeatedly..often lightened it can go a darker/gingery coulour.
For the summer I'd recommend going back to your natural colour and letting the sun naturally lighten it!
Much better!

Definitely lighter. The sun will lighten it for you. However, your skin will be darker should you expose yourself under the sun.
