Declawing is not as horrible procedure as many people make it sound, but you need to research the veterinarian that is going to do the surgery. Make sure that the vet uses INHALANT anesthesia (much safer than injectable) and that no nail clippers will be used. The old fashioned method of nail clippers break the bone of the toes and can cause complications later on. Laser vs. scalpel declaw is controversial, there are not much difference in recovery between the two (except for price). Price varies wildly in areas and wether the veterinarian uses local blocks, pain meds, inhalant anesthesia, etc. Is not something you should look for price, search quality instead. They should run around $100-250 depending on the area.
Most Banfields (aka the petsmart vets) will do declaws and their standard of care is excellent. They are good choice for a declaw and their prices are fair. Their prices may be a little higher than another private practice in the area, but their standard of care is worth it.

It is a major surgery for the cat and you have to shred paper for 3 days for them to go to the bathroom. I had the mistake of having 2 of my cats done several years ago. The vet is where you go. I have 13 cats and only one is declawed. If your animal is clawing the furniture get a scratching post and rub catnip into the thing, the catnip should attract the cat to the post. I also have a spary bottle and all I do is shake the bottle and they stop. You can also put tape in the spots where the cat likes scratch, they hate the feeling of tape on hteir paws. They make a tape that you can put on the furniture to detere the cat doesn't scratch and it won't harm your furniture. Hope this helps.

It usually costs around 150 dollars if you go to a good vet. However, you would be just as smart to spend that money on a tall cat perch at Pet Smart. When your cat starts to scratch something you do not want it to, you simply tell it no, and carry it kindly to the perch and move its paw on the post as if it were scratching. It may take some time as it takes 21 days to form a new habit, but in the long run you will be happy and so will your cat. I have done the declaw thing, and will never do it again.

don`t do it! i have cats and wouldn`t even dare to think about declawing..i just bought a cattree on ebay , that`s not only fun and exercise for ur cat it also helps to keep the cat of ur furniture etc.
if u care about ur cat(s), which u should because u adoptet them... therefor u agreed to give them a good life ..forget about declawing real quick!!!check out online how painful and what kind of consequences declawing brings. Declawing in europe is illegal and i wish it would be worldwide.

This needs to be done by a vet. BUT some of the higher end pet centers have vats! I recently had my cat nuetered and declawed. The cost for both was combined at $235 and included the anesthesia. Just remember afterward thay need to be inside cats since they are pretty defenseless without those claws.

Gosh. I hope you don't do it. It is considered so inhumane by some people that even nations (like the United Kingdom) have made it illegal.
If you are concerned about furniture, there are other options to protect your furniture.
I know that there are people (and nations) both pro and con this issue. I hope that you will think more about the health of your individual cat and give him/her the best possible treatment by not declawing him/her.

You shouldn't have a cat declawed unless absolutely necessary.
Imagine having the tip of every one of your fingers and toes cut off at the knuckle, because that's what happens to a cat when it is declawed.
Get the vet to show you how to trim your cats claws, and that should put a stop to any damage that it is doing around the house.

You have to have it done at a vet because it is an amputation of part of your cats foot. it is expensive because most vets don't like doing it anymore as it is considered cruel. But they do it and it is expensive anywhere from $175 to $275 and that is 3 days stay in the vets also

It can only be done by a vet. But before you decided to do this to your cat... ask yourself this would you cut half of your finger off?? No? then why do it to your cat. There are many way to prevent unwanted calwing like soft paws, cat climbers, triming the nails.... Please do your cat a favor and do a search on what declawing really dose to your cat!!

You only do that with a kitten and not a cat. It's not good and is a surgery.
After 5 years, ours got out for the first time and was dead within 4 hours. It should be illegal. Dumbest thing we ever did.
More humane to lock her up in a cage the rest of her life. Give her/him to a family that likes cats the way they are.
