Ghosts, lost souls or trick of the mind?

When you see a ghost or a spirit, could it be that it is actually just a lighting effect or a subconscious trick or hallucination?

ringo711: You should read between the lines. I am not really saying there is no Spirits, I'm aquestioning it to see if i'm delusional or if what i see is infact real and then I also try question the motive of every spirit. There are some twisted stuff going on the physical world, so there is probably just as much twisted stuff going on in the spiritual world, but it could be that all the gods are but ancient souls and/or creative endeaviours.

For someone like you, you would have to see to believe, no matter what someone on here would say, but in many cases yes your right it can be a trick of the light, it could the wind, it could be a number of things, but what i can tell you is i have seen things that could not be anything else, couple of weeks ago I was in a house that was having problems, on my own, all doors, and windows shut, no heating on, nothing, I went upstairs, and noticed that there was a heavy sliding door that was open on this bathroom cupboard, then it shut, i opened it again and it was stiff to move, so what moved it?? what shut that door, what was making the footsteps going up and down the stairs whilst i was there on my own, it was not a lighting effect, or subconscious trick, or an hallucination, and just in case you might think it there were no trains, or aircraft passing to make a noise or movement.
So there you have it, all i say to you is keep an open mind

it could be or it could be real - i believe in ghosts and all that but i have never seen anything and i know my mind plays a lot of tricks on me - for example i am a bit frightened of being home alone and i have to make sure that i have the doors closed - if the door opens or i hear a noise i automatically think that its a ghost or something - so to answer your question it could be tricks or it could be real - no one knows for sure thats why there is this debate xx

I believe the Bible is true. God said stay away from "familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them." (Leviticus 19:30) The reason He said that was not because he doesn't want us talking to our dearly departed loved ones. It's because they are not our loved ones, but Satan & his band of angels trying to decieve us.

So, no it's not a trick of our minds - unless we watch ghost movies and have a vivid imagination. When people actual see a "ghost" it's an evil angel. Sorry, Montel & that woman who goes on your show claiming otherwise, you are seriously decieved and encouraging others along a false path.

i didnt believe in ghosts untill i went on a ghost walk in sterling when i was visiting scotland..... just for a giggle i decided to take photographs in the cemerty we were in... i forgot all about getting the film developed until recently.... when the films came back all photos came out perfectly except for one that was slightly blured and clear as anythingis an old man standing behind a graveston grinning... his had is resting on the stone and he is wearing somathign arround his neck. untill that photo i didnt belive in ghosts.... sinve getting tht photo developed wierd thing have been happening.... over christmas our tree lights were on most mornings even when i took the plug out before bed.... lights are constantly turnign themselves on.... and just the other night at 4am i woke and a draft wizzed past my face.... am i scared????/ not at all..... iim more affraid of the living.....
i cant explain why these things are happening... i guess one you believe in ghosts you open your mind to more posibilities i dunno..... i cant imagine lights turing on though.. so i cant explain it

There was a program on TV last week showing poltergeist activity in a house in the 1970s.There were eye-witness accounts..from police,a lollipop lady and journalists...of objects ,even a child flying across a room.I didn't believe in ghosts...but it made me wonder..."There are more things on heaven and earth Horatio,than are dreamt of in your philosophy." I am an atheist but have seen the ghost of a dog that died I was walking my other dog at the time. He was the dead dogs brother and reacted to the ghost and I swa them both run behind the bushes. I keep thinking of that time and the feelings I was containing in me and feel now that it was a tyick of the light that allowed my mind to hallucinate what I wished to see.

everyone has there own opion, myself i believe that they ghost/spirits are lost souls from previous lives which cant move on due to loss and unhappiness and wants to find the answers but saying that you do have to think of other explanatons if you see something.xx

i believe that the spirit of a person or energy stays behind long after they are gone. i have spoken to a medium and she was good really good she told me things she could not have known unless she was there and things i had even forgotten about. i am happier for going and knowing that absent family and friends are with me looking out for me. makes me feel safe. and as i have been told its the living we have to be frightened of not the dead.

of course it could be something quite natural ..
so you got to weigh up exactly what is happening..
do more than one person see it ? .. how often does it happen ? .. do you see it only at night etc
rule out eye problems , sleep problems , lighting ...
then you have to work out from there is it a ghost ? spirit ?
