I don't have it yet, but I heard that files don't transfer well, and printers have not been working right.

It is not worth the upgrade...causes more grief then its worth. Get it with a new machine (maybe) or wait until the first one or two service packs are out before considering an upgrade.

If you're getting a new machine with it preinstalled, it's decent enough. If you're upgrading an OS, wait until at least the first service pack comes out...it's an improvement, but not enough to justify buying it yet.

The visual influences are definitely copped from Mac OS X, and a lot of the so-called improvements and additions are just skin-deep...the Aero interface is the prime example of that. Some of the ideas such as ReadyBoost and User Account Control will be good once they get them worked out, but again, that won't be until the first service pack or so. Hardware and software compatibility are issues that will get better with time, but driver support and program updates from other companies may take time.

As for file transfer, I've had no problems with it...after all, it's not too hard to hook up an external USB drive and back up files. I've successfully used five different printers with Vista and had no problems.

Your mileage may vary.

As with any new o/s release, hardware vender's are slow to get their new drivers written and certified for the new o/s.
Older programs that were written for the fat or fat32 file system when installed on the ntfs file system will have problems. I have been an IT professional long enough to remember when Windows XP was rolled out. No drivers and some programs would work poorly, or not at all. Give it 3 months and the drivers will be available. In the mean time, go to windows vista.com and look for the upgrade adviser. download and run it on your machine. It will give you a report of what hardware and software you may have issues with, and offer a fix for it. It will also tell you what the best version of vista to use on your machine......

There are many ways of viewing Vista. Well yes it was copied from Mac, partially and not a very well job done. It takes huge amounts of memory to support the system. And its mighty expensive and so many more drawbacks!!! But you'll only think of all this if you're thinking short-term. Think of it in the long run. What microsoft is trying to do is to set a gaming standard. They want XBOX like awesome games to work on a pc.. and in the long run, no one wants to have low-end pc's... so once u make an OS like Vista, you automatically make ppl upgrade... thats the plan of microsoft... and so far all they've got is criticisms... and yet, they're enjoying the release... why? because of the long term goal in mind...

Well, you may want to look at this and decide it for yourself

In my own opinion, I think Vista working pretty well and that printers do work unless oyu have a USB connection for your printer. Just plug it in and it will install it for you automatically...

Have fun!

I like the look and feel of Vista, but one thing it does suck is system resources.
