I find that when you ask the "are you seeing someone now?" question, it makes your intentions a little too transparent... has anyone found a better way of finding out if a girl is interested?

ask around ony people you know and are secure with or you could be really flirty and go up to her and say "hey, are you seeing someone" and see what the answer is!

Whats wrong with being transparent? If you're a little shy, guy, think of things this way:
Asking if they are seeing someone, CONFIDENTLY, can be a big turn on for a girl. If you are trying to find a way to stay hidden in the shadows, then she will pass you up for a lesser guy who walks into the light.
You must've seen the great looking girl with all the personality in the world who has a boyfriend that looks like a toad and collects vintage toenail clippings, right? How do you think he got her? By hiding, asking her friends who she was seeing, and thinking up new ways to avoid rejection? NO. He got her because he was the one who walked up and asked her. Don't be intimidated, be the INTIMIDATOR.

Just chat to her and see what comes of it. If she is seeing someone she will probably tell you within the first 10 minutes. Girls can usually tell if a guy is interested and if they are dating will want to set things straight. Unless they are tramps or players - in which case you have to use your judgement about the type of girl they are.
As a female though I think being straight is the best way - just ask.....

Why not start by saying "your boyfriends a lucky man" , it's very obvious but it's a compliment and if she's not interested anyway it gives her the opportunity to turn you down without embarrassment (she says "yes he is)
who knows she might say "actually I'm single and looking for someone like you !"

How about has you man let you out alone tonight? Do you have children is quite a good one. Alternatively, don't worry about being transparent. It's lovely to meet a man who's upfront and clear about his intentions.

First look at her left hand to see if she is engaged or married.
Then during conversation, if she does not reveal if she is or she isn't there is nothing wrong with saying, I would like to go out to dinner or whatever you would like to do. If she is not available she will tell you.
There is nothing wrong with letting a girl know you would like to see her again. I don't know why you consider this a problem.

it depends on how much u know the girl.
if u guys just met, don't ask her if she wants u to know she'll definetly tell u
if u knew her for a while, ask her a question and include her boyfriend in it e.g. can we go out tonight or is ur boyfriend gonna take u out.
she'll either ans yes or no. if she says yes during the date u could probably ask her straight up if she has a bf.
if she says no u can ask her is it that u have a bf or u don't wanna go out with me?

You could ask for advice about something, like: My friend is looking for a gift for his wife for their anniversary, and he is clueless, what gift did your boyfriend get you that you really liked?
Obviously, get the conversation started another way prior to asking that... but it should work.
