If you feel a constant need for some kind of sensation, such as to eat, drink & take drugs, spend money or do something which gives you a rush, what mental illness is this?

It's what's known as being an "intensity junkie" and generally it is a response to feeling numb (either due to overstimulation or excessive emotional control). Intensity junkies seek a rush in order to feel anything, and often feel empty otherwise. "Addiction" generally comes in two forms: "intensity junkies" or those who seek things to numb out painful feelings that are too intense. Paradoxical, huh?

This can be do to Bipolar or Borderline Personality disorders. This can also be a case of misdiagnosing alcoholism. Many bipolars and depressants are actually abusing drugs and alcohol and the symptoms mimic that of mental illness.
