I was born in Long Beach....has it changed that much? Used to hang out at the Redondo pier but that was many moons ago. Good luck on your search.

This time I'll have to agree with "Cher". Between Seal Beach, and Huntington Beach I would prefer Huntington Beach. Really nice pier, and lots of local shopping. The surf if a little better than at Seal. Lots of money was spent to make it a really great recreational area. It's one drawback is that it does get very crowded in the summer because Orange County Transit operates summer "beach busses" bringing kids from all over the county there.

I agree - I used to live in Santa Monica and the pier are is a little seedy.

Try Hermosa Beach pier. It is much nicer and has restaurants/shops around it.

hmmmm...not much there in Santa Monica????? All famous name beaches have piers in L.A. and O.C....Maybe Laguna Beach and its shoppes would be more to your liking....(I don't think you found the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, but maybe you want something more upscale, try Laguna and see if that suits you better ?????)

try Seal Beach or Huntington Beach...both clean and safe at all hours.
