Dear Princess,

I've been pondering your question since I saw it 2 days ago but didn't have the time to answer.

The primary reason to be cheerful is knowing Jesus Christ and Him crucified and risen!

That is the only reason that I can be cheerful in minute day-to-day details and even in the face of painful or troubling circumstances.

My youngest brother's tour of duty in Iraq was extended by about 4 months and my son left yesterday for an undisclosed location. I still got emotional when I said good-bye to my son yesterday but by focusing on the One Who IS Good ALL of the time, I am not in despair.

When I went to the send-off ceremony for my son last week I was able to be cheerful as I looked at the entusiasm of those who were leaving and those will be waiting for them to come home safely. I was able to be cheerful as I watched my 8 and 6 year old grandsons (even though they will miss their dad) lead a flag-waving parade about the base for the benefit of my daughter's son.

By knowing that the Author of life IS and IS good all of the time I can be cheerful when I help my nearly 16 month old grandson overcome his fear of the Elmo car that was given him. I so often hear about "getting out of the box" but I helped my grandson overcome fear by putting Elmo IN the box! Elmo could go only so far and then he stopped. Now the Elmo car is his favorite toy! When he isn't playing with Elmo he is absolutely thrilled to just sit on a step and swing his feet.

It does not necessarily have to be something dramatic or outstanding for us to be positive does it. It's when we are grateful for the everyday things of life, such as having a new start to each new day, that we are able to remain positive no matter what comes our way. To have the opportunity to be kind, considerate to others. To continue each day our relationship with God who died for us and gave His life for us, and to appreciate all the blessings He bestows upon us.

I phoned the Penguin last night! First person from here that I've ever talked to in person. We had a lot of fun and mostly just laughed for 30 minutes.

And spring is beginning! it's all sunny and blue and warm in London, which is a pretty rare occurance. Then again, global warming...

My friend Barbara had another successful pain-free week of chemotherapy - and - our little church collected over $500.00 and a bunch of food for her and her five kids. Awesome.

Oh...God gets the glory, of course.
