Your best bet is going to be to actually contact the passport offices and ask so that you can be ready to apply.
The website for Canada Passport is here:
http://www.ppt.gc.ca/
but I would recommend actually talking to someone so you can ask the pertinent question and get accurate answers.

As soon as the baby is born, get the birth certificates in order, apply for Social Insurance Number, and get a photo of the baby (head and shoulders). When you have all that, visit your nearest passport office (you don't need to bring the baby with you) and sign the passport papers there.

the fastest way to get it is to apply on line they guarantee it in i think six weeks the photo requirements for a baby are quite strict though so i am not sure you will be able to do the photos right after the baby is born, besides the baby should not travel soon after birth anyway , hope this helps

As soon as the baby's born, get the birth cert. here's the link where you can apply in Montreal http://canadaonline.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&sdn=canadaonline&cdn=newsissues&tm=23&gps=222_726_1020_565&f=10&tt=14&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.etatcivil.gouv.qc.ca/English/howtoobtain.htm
if you request for the birth cert. to be done in 2 working days (the fastest in Toronto, anyways... I paid $50 then they send it to you via courier). If you tell the person who's going to process your kid's application form the reason why you want it done ASAP, he/she will put a note on your receipt which you can used temp in applying for your child passport.... which they will hold till you can produce the child birth cert... either short or long form is acceptable. Hope that'll help.
