What is the best way to let the family know you are dating someone much older?

I'm 18 and my other is 39, we have known eachother for many years, and just began dating. We get along really well.

There is no good way....I was 17 and dated a 26 year old and my parents told me they really really like me hes handsome hes respectful and seems to really care about me......and then they told him he could not date me...and I cried for days....and then went behind their backs...I do have to say that a 39 year old man is in such a different place in his life then an 18 year old and even though things are great now and he probably makes you feel taken care of and loved (I am sure he does love you too) you will grow tired of him....You will eventually feel like he thinks you are dumb and immature and will not give you the credit you deserve merely because of your age.....You will want to go do things with people your own age and he will eventually start to appear very old to you as the romantic euphoria you are in now wears off.....A 40 year old man is very set in his ways.I know because I am 37 and married to a 40 year old man...it is a major ego boost for him right now to be dating an 18 year old but once he feels he has you under his control the belittleing and not taking you seriously will start and you will feel not taken seriously because of your age...In the meantime you will have wasted many years of your life and will wish you had those years back..I know why you find him attractive, I always found older men attractive too at your age and I was very matrure for my age so guys my own age didnt appeal but trust me....I know Im a stranger but you will regret this later.....and your parents will not accept this....good luck...

that's a big gap princess and they are gonna think you are nuts. I can understand it because most of us don't perceive ourselves by what age we are. that's why old men still think they can kick someones azz while toting around their oxygen bottle. others are way too willing to try to enlighten you. go to walmarts and get you some posters of old geezers, hang them on your wall and when anyone ask you , just say you think older guys are sexy. they will get the hint that is what you are in to and when they finally find out, they will think, she always liked older guys. just like when you see a picture of an almost naked girl on your girlfriends wall and you start questioning is she a lesbian. and when you find out, you think, I always wandered about that. once an idea gets put in peoples head, it is much more palatable. your family will find out sooner or later anyway, you have just let them down gently. that's not to say I approve of it. I think too many complications come from such a big gap. older guys are usually more experienced at manipulating younger women. they have had longer to learn the skills. I know of a guy who is 55 and has an 18 year old g/f, so you aren't as weird as you think.she is happy so who am I to judge.

the best thing to do is just be open and honest tell your family how much you get on with each other if they say you have nothing in common tell them its a good thing you can learn from him and he can learn from you that you have plenty to talk about your 18 you have to start making your own decisions right or wrong good luck

be honest with the family and be prepared to take a lot of criticism-they're going to be calling it perverted. if you were my son or daughter, it would be pretty upsetting and i definitely would have a sit down with the other person.

sit your family down and tell them that you"ve met someone and are happy and you want them to be happy for you.if they disaprove then say nothing let them see how happy you are and then they will come around.
