Why does a mood ring change colour?

I know that it has something to do with your heat, i think? But is there a certain chemical in the mood ring that makes it change colour? if so, what is it?

it might be like the glasses that get dark in light, the glasses get dark for the same reason you can make a photograph with silver and iodine i think, if you mix silver and iodine in the dark then expose it to light it gets dark, so if parts of it are not exposed they stay bright, so if they mix silver and iodine in glass in the dark then let if cool it stays separate chemically then when exposed to light they try and combine and try and get dark but when put back in the dark they clear up!
