Gravity flow makes the fluid flow into the patient. If the bottle was placed at the same level as the patient or lower, blood would flow into the bottle. Thats why when you donate blood, the bag is placed below you.

First as gravity works and allow fluid to come down freely ..secondly as blood is also a fluid so if we keep the bottle at lover level, Pressure of blood inside the body which is more than that bottle as being pumped by the heart would make the blood come through the vein into the bottle......so it would reverse the process !thats why it is kept at higher level !

Gravity helps to pull the fluid into your blood system. Note they will put the bag high if they are wanting it to go faster to create more of a gravitational pull on the fluid
