I think that the questions in the health area are fine if they are benign in nature.....anything thing requiring immediate medical attention, like your question, that caught my eye immediately, need to be sought out by emergency medical personnel in that person area. They shouldn't even be on the computer if it that serious.

I think that when people are unwell, solace and information is sought from a number of sources (including the web). As long as people don't take advice seriously that's okay. The web can be useful for general info as long as people realise that advice and info may not be 100% correct and they are receiving proper medical treatment.
Hope you're breathing better now!! ;-)

I've often wondered this myself. First, consider that there are some who don't finish their schooling. Also, we don't have national health care, so others may wait until they're are nearly on their death bed before they seek medical treatment. In such cases, someone who has a computer, Internet connection, and can type, might not seem so bad. Just my 2 cents.

for home remedies or advice on non urgent care such as questions like what to do for dandruff. I agree that there are people out there who do have urgent questions that definately need medical attention immediately but some people are just to nervous about what the doctor is going to diagnose and if they can get some comfort from others then more power to them.

I hear ya .. and no, I would not trust a web site to give me advice on medical conditions. As well, there are a lot of people who post for some pretty serious legal advice. What are they thinking??

depends on what the prob is I suppose. If you have some knowledge of what the prob is and are looking for additional info than sure web sites have a wealth of knowledge but if there is a medical condition that needs meds or treatment of some kind you cannot get that on the web

To a certain degree I believe you can. But if you can't breath than 911 will be of more assistance than the net.

When you need emergency advice you should go to professionals; if you come here you are just throwing the subject of the emergency to the jackals.

depends on what the website is and what the health problem is. sometimes people are just trying to be educated before seeing a health care prof.
