What should be worn to a bartending job interview? And what can you expect to wear after your hired?

The teacher at bartending school said black pants and a white shirt to the interview. Is there any type of bar where you will not get hired for showing up in this?

it all depends on what the bar is like. at the bar i go to the bartenders can wear whatever they want to. most of the girls wear mini skirts and some kind of t-shirt that does't cover their breasts or stomachs, and they're all ugly. the guys wear jeans and t-shirts or polos. maybe you should go to the bar you are interviewing at as a patron and see what the bartenders are wearing. i would go semi-dressed up atleast in case they do expect you to wear more professional clothing.

You won't get hired in most any bar wearing that.... really. If it was bar where that is not the outfit you would look pretencious and that wou expect to be more upscale.A verzion of black and white is the most common in mid to upscale bars but yours might not be just right the right thing, cut or style. They might like the bartenders to show up in a super crisp shirt and if it wrinkles while working, OK. You do the same with a shirt for an interview and it will look terrible in 10 minutes. Basically if you show up in that outfit anywhere it would be like wearing a TGIFridays uniform to an interview before you even have the job.

Wear something business casual. Dockers or a nice pair of pants. A collared shirt and a tie if it is a nice place. The interview is about your personality..... not some basics you learned in school. Shake hands look people in the eye and be confident this is the key. Not the resume that the school made you make highlighting applicable skills. Its people skills. Your job is to get any bar job and then you will start to make contacts and have a reference. Usually the best place for this if you did the school is a hotel or something.

The best thing in the whole world is to visit that bar anonymously a few nights before. Look around and see what is up. You will be better prepared.

That's the first thing that came to mind--the black pants and white shirt.

I can't imagine not being hired for wearing that combo to the interview. If the establishment has a dress code, you will be instructed what to wear.

I was a bartender for many years. The only place where I had a "uniform" was a golf shirt with the business name on it. Other than that, I worked in the good old jeans and t-shirt places.

This depends on what kind of establishments you are applying to. I've had many bartending jobs and tend to wear all black. A nice place: wear a black sweater or blouse and black pants, a club wear a black shirt and a tank

I always show up in what I would wear to the job. But if your teacher said black pants, white shirt then best go with that.

Your whites and blacks are perfect for an interview. It shows professionalism. Then during the interview you can ask what the standard dress code will be. But it's always best to look sharp and not like you wandered in off the street.
