ITS FALSE

It is true. You can't expect to see the dog die suddenly and horribly on the spot, but there is a protein in chocolate that is poisonous to them. They must not be given onions either. If you must give chocolate to your dog for a treat, buy the special dog chocolate that has had its formula altered to remove the deadly element for dogs. But dogs should not have chocolate as a treat. A play with a ball or a Frisbee is better as a reward than a food reward. Many dogs have too much weight from snacks and treats and it in turn causes the same complications in a dog as it does in people. diabetes, heart disease, arthritis. Anyone who sees themselves as a dog lover should act in the best interests of the dog and not their own human way of looking at things. Putting the dog's health and well being is an expression of love. Good luck with your dog, but please, see her vet and check what I have said. I am sure the vet will confirm the things I have told you.

Kind regards,

Lisa

Yeah chocolate contains a chemical which is poisonous to dogs. Dogs can usually take a small amount but it's best to not let them have it at all. If they eat too much for their size it can kill them. Something like cocoa powder or dark chocolate is more concentrated and more poisonous. So make sure you don't leave a bag of cocoa powder where they can get it. Also poisonous to dogs are onions, grapes and anything containing caffeine such as tea or coffee. The same applies, in small quantities they can be okay, but it's better to not let your dog have them at all. The last link goes to a site with some more things that are dangerous for dogs to eat.

Whoa, nelly! Hold it right there! I've watched one too many Emergency Vets episodes where a dog eats baking cocoa and gets poisioned. You know what happens after that. I don't reccomend giving your dog chocolate. I've also heard somewhere that chocolate gives your dog a stomchache. Raisins and grapes are also highly toxic to dogs. If you're not sure about feeding your dog a certain "people food", just don't do it!!!

ture if it eats to much
Chocolate: Chocolate contains a substance called the
obromine which is toxic to dogs. Baking chocolate and dark chocolate is especially dangerous. While it usually takes a somewhat large amount of chocolate to kill a dog, poisoning and death does occur with smaller amounts ingested. Signs of chocolate poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, increased urination, and increased activity. This can progress to seizures and unusual heart rhythms. Call your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your dog has eaten chocolate.

My dog always got into chocolate, didn't matter where we put it, she always found it. She would tear apart the box to get at the chocolate, and she lived to be 17 years old. So I would say false, but it may be true for other dogs.

First understand that there is a difference between "can" and "will".
It is not chocolate per say that is poisonous to dogs, it is the *theobromine* in chocolate that is, and the amount of theobromine in chocolate can vary a great deal.
What people don't seem to understand is that theobromine has a cumulative effect in the liver and kidneys of the dog, so the amount of theobromine needed to be fatal can be reduced over time.

Well, my dog has not died, and he is the biggest chocolate thief I know. However he has had a few seizures, but usually a day or more after the theft occurred. so now I make sure, all chocolate is in upper cupboards, I don't know if the seizures are related to the chocolate or not but I am not taking any chances.

Chocolate is poisonous to dogs. However, it won't always even make them sick and only a lot will kill them. Usually, if they are small and eat a candy bar or something, they will get sick to their stomach and get the runs. If they are bigger, they might be just fine. If they eat enough, they could die. It would be a really good idea to try to keep chocolate away from your dog, even if this time she is OK.

Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, but its only like the cyanide in apple pips - if you ate a ton of them it could kill you. So make sure you only give small amounts and not to often. Try and use a doggy treat instead though!

You are doing well, you are allowing your dog a treat and she accepts it. You are not overfeeding your dog with her treats.

In small amounts chocolate is okay. Does anyone let their dog have bones - or do they let them have pork? The bones can choke the dog if the bones have been cooked and the pork, apparently, contains too much copper for a dog to ingest! So before you all start worrying about the chocolate - have you considered the meat?
