Can anyone help? Been under a lot of stress lately. I am getting itchy flaky scalp, really embarrasing. Tried using over the counter remedies, but my scalp seems to become used to a certain treatment, it starts to clear, then comes back again. Anyone got any advice as to what I can do.... I am sick of checking my shoulders for dandruff, I never used to suffer with it , but now just can't seem to shift it!!!

i am a hairdresser and i used to have a client who had the itchest flakiest scalp i had ever seen. i recommended T-Gel which is especially for this condition and it worked wonders for my client.it comes in two different types to suit your scalp. you can buy it in boots or superdrug or any chemist. it helps if you can spend a few minutes (whenever you wash your hair) to give yourself a good head massage, this is what i did with my client.you can towel dry your hair and just sit and give yourself a good massage no need to be bending over the sink doing it then rinse well and style your hair. also it is useful to know that even when the dandruff has cleared up it is important to carry on using a dandruff shampoo as the condition will only return if you stop using it. also try not to use too many hair products like mousse or heavy hairsprays as these will exacerbate the condition.

It sounds like you may have Serborimic Dermetitis, its like a form of eczema that usually effects areas which have hair. It tends to make your scalp very itchy and also have sore patches in your head where the scalp is red and irritated. Shampoos like T-gel can help and some people recommend washing your hair everyday as oil on the scalp can aggravate the situation.

May be it would be worth going to your GP to see what they would recommend or refer you to a specialist.

There are a lot of disorders that affect the scalp - it could be anything from dandruff, psoriasis, Seb Derm... to be honest you are probably better off asking your GP to refer you to a dermatologist so you know what you are dealing with. If you look at the link below you will find it interesting and you may be able to get some more advice.

Try using a shampoo that is natural and contains tea tree oil in it or massage abit of olive oil on the affected area's if you can feel where they are. Avoid using most shampoo's that like head and shoulders as or so strong they strip all natural oils and once you stop using it comes back 2ice as bad. Betnovate is best over counter product

Don't try to scratch it else you might get bald spots. Try rubbing oils in your scalp. Virgin Coconut Oil might help.
